Description

Professional Title
Documentary & Humanitarian Photographer

Md Monsurul Azam is a Bangladesh-based Documentary and Humanitarian Photographer from Chattogram, Bangladesh. Born in 1977, his photographic practice focuses on marginalized communities, human resilience, social inequality, climate change, cultural heritage, and the everyday lives of people whose stories often remain unseen.

Working across documentary, fine art, street, and portrait photography, he seeks to capture authentic human experiences, the dignity of ordinary people, and the complex relationship between people, culture, and their environment. His work explores themes of survival, identity, tradition, environmental challenges, and the quiet strength of communities facing adversity.

His photography has received recognition through national and international photography competitions, exhibitions, and publications. His achievements include recognition in the UNICEF Bangladesh World Water Day 2026 photography initiative, selection as a finalist in the Urban Photo Awards 2025, and participation in the MobiliseYourCity People in Motion 2026 photography exhibition in Brussels. His photographic storytelling project on water, cultural heritage, and climate resilience was also selected for potential inclusion in a UNESCO regional toolkit on living heritage and climate action in Asia and the Pacific.

Through his lens, Monsurul aims to raise awareness, preserve meaningful visual narratives, and create photographs that encourage empathy, reflection, and social understanding. His long-term goal is to bring underrepresented human stories from Bangladesh to a wider international audience through powerful, honest, and socially conscious visual storytelling.
